Tiger jumpers, sprinters compete at Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team brought its jumpers and sprinters to the Mount Marty Twilight Invite Tuesday afternoon in Yankton, S.D.

Daniel Porter was the Tigers top finisher as he took second in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. He recorded a mark of 42-feet-one-half inch in the triple jump, and a leap of 19-8.75 in the long jump. Paul Apenhorst also finished in the top 10 for the Dakota Wesleyan men. He finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.22.

Also for the Tiger men, Jedd Schlicht took 13th in the 100-meter dash in 12.09 seconds, and teammate Lionel Karyea finished 14th in 12.22 seconds. Tyler Volesky finished 19th in the 400 in 53.24 seconds.

Shekala Quarles paced the DWU women with a fifth-place finish in the long jump. Her best mark was a leap of 17-1.5. Jessica Fossum took 15th in the same event with a leap of 15-11. Abby Fossum finished 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 32-1.5, Jessica Fossum and Ariana Arampatzis tied for 12th in the high jump with leaps of 4-3.25 and Heather Banister took 14th in the 400-meter dash in 1:19.01.

Dakota Wesleyan is back in action Saturday, April 26, when it travels to St. Peter, Minn., to compete in the Gustavus Adolphus Invite. The Tigers wrap up the spring season at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 2-3 in Crete, Neb.
