Porter wins again, Van Winkle shines in debut for DWU trackPublished by
MITCHELL, S.D. Daniel Porter continues to pick up wins for the Dakota Wesleyan University men s indoor track and field team, grabbing up a third first-place finish in the triple jump this season for the Tigers. Porter (Plattsmouth, Neb.) topped the field in the men s triple jump with a distance of 12.96 meters at the Dakota Realty Alumni Indoor Track & Field Meet hosted by the University of South Dakota Saturday in Vermillion, S.D. The Tigers competed in the college division at the event. In his first meet of the season, freshman Scott Van Winkle (Tyndall, S.D.) made a splash for the Tigers, taking second in the men s 200-meter dash. He finished with a time of 23.37 seconds. Freshman distance runner Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) also picked up a second-place finish for the Tigers. Tibbs crossed the line second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 9.39 seconds. Tibbs was also ninth in the one-mile run. Other top finishers for the Tigers included sophomore Isaac Van Essen (Sioux Falls, S.D.), taking third in the men s long jump with a leap of 6.50 meters, while Lionel Karyea (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) placed fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.46 seconds. On the women s side, the top finisher for DWU was junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.), who took second in the 600-meter run in 1:44.48. Freshman Shailhyn Schweigert finished third behind Forgey with a time of 1:51.28. The Tigers are next in action at the South Dakota State Invitation Feb. 13 and 14 in Brookings, S.D.
